Picayune Rotary Club brightens up a day for students with fishing rodeo

On Tuesday, April 17th, the Picayune Rotary Club held their 25th Annual Fishing Rodeo at the home of Tony and Sharon Paternostro. The event is held by the Rotarians for Special Needs students in the Picayune School District.

The event provided a day of fishing, fun, food, and fellowship with over 50 volunteers participating.

Christy Goss, President of Picayune Rotary Club, said, “This event is one of our most important events all year. We all look forward to making this day a great time for the students.”

Susan Wilson, a member of the club for 18 years and Service Projects chairperson, stated, “This is a day we set aside everything to make sure the students have fun. We are so blessed to be able to do this for them.”

The Rotary Club members prepared food, repaired broken fishing poles or lines, and made sure the 92 students enjoyed themselves and had a fun time, while hopefully catching a fish.

Also volunteering at the event were players and coaches from the Pearl River Community College Wildcat football team.

“This, like so many other events in the community, are important to us at Pearl River. We want people to know we care and are always willing to help when we can. Getting out and giving back to the community is an important part of being a Wildcat football player,” said PRCC Head Football Coach Ted Egger.

The Rotary Club meets every Tuesday at noon at Southern Char Steakhouse restaurant in Picayune.
