On March 8th at around 10:19am, Picayune Police Narcotics Division conducted a traffic stop on a blue Chevrolet Traverse after Narcotic Detectives observed the vehicle run a stop sign at the intersection of East Canal Street and South Curran Avenue. The traffic stop was conducted at North Curran Avenue and East Second Street.

When the Narcotic Detectives approached the vehicle, they asked for a valid driver’s license and proof of insurance from the driver, identified as Kelly Ann Jenkins, age 53, of 28121 Dusty Lane, Picayune, and a valid identification card from the passenger, identified as Daryl Wayne Jenkins, age 34, of 7487 East Cypress Drive, Perkinston.

While speaking with Daryl Jenkins, Narcotic Detectives observed a torch lighter in his right hand and a glass pipe containing a burnt crystal residue believed to be Crystal Methamphetamine in his left hand. Narcotic Detectives asked Daryl (Jenkins) to exit the vehicle numerous times, but he refused. At this time, the Detectives escorted him from the vehicle and he was detained and searched for officer safety. During the search, Narcotic Detectives found a brown sheath containing what appeared to be a dirk knife concealed on Daryl’s right hip. It was confirmed through dispatch that Daryl was a convicted felon and he was placed under arrest for Possession of Weapon by Felon and Possession of Paraphernalia.

Kelly (Jenkins) was detained outside the vehicle by Narcotic Detectives while a search of the vehicle was conducted. Narcotic Detectives located an additional torch lighter on the front driver side floor board and a purple plastic container containing a yellow plastic bag containing a crystal substance believed to be Crystal Methamphetamine in the front center console.

Detectives were able to find out that Daryl was in possession of the narcotics present in the vehicle.

Daryl (Jenkins) was subsequently charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance (felony) and Kelly was placed under arrest for Possession of Paraphernalia, and Running a Stop Sign.

Both suspects were transported to the Criminal Justice Center, booked, and incarcerated.
