Local man arrested for multiple charges

On February 13, 2018, at 10:00am, Picayune Police officers were flagged down in reference a complaintant stating there was a male subject sleeping in his vehicle which was parked near the gas pump’s at a local business on Highway 43 north according to Assistant Police Chief Jeremy Magri.

The complaintant told the officer she was worried about the well being of the person in the car. The police officer went to the vehicle, a 2002 Mitsubishi Montero, and did a license check on the tag. The report came back that the tag was for a Chevrolet truck, thus showing that it was a switched tag on the Mitsubishi. The suspect was identified as William Christopher Smith, age 50, of 45 Joshua Smith Road, in Picayune.

Magri said that Smith was asked to exit the vehicle and a pat-down was conducted for officer safety. During the pat-down, the officer found a needle from the front pocket. He also found a black cylinder shaped object in Smith’s front pocket that contained two plastic baggies that each contained a crystal like substance believed to be Crystal Methamphetamine. The officer also located two glass pipes, commonly used for smoking meth, between the center console and the driver’s seat.

Smith was taken into custody and placed under arrest for Possession of a Controlled Substance (felony), Possession of Paraphernaila, and Switched Tag.

He was transported to the Criminal Justice Center, booked on the stated charges, and incarcerated according to Magri.
