Lady Blue Devils drop close game to Wingfield to end season

Jackson--The Pearl River Central Lady Blue Devils fell short in their quest to move the next round of the South State playoffs losing to Wingfield (Jackson)

46-44 and ending their season.

Leading 19-17 at the half, PRC extended the lead to 23-17 in the first three minutes of the third period, but Wingfield went on a 14-2 run midway in the period to build a 31-25 lead. Lindsey McCurdy hit a short jumper to cut the lead to 31-27 and Samantha Orgeron’s layup made 31-29 with :22 left. Wingfield got a free throw from Tahja Coleman to lead 32-29 at the end of the period.

In the last period, PRC cut the lead to one point on four occasions, and took the

lead 42-41 on a pair free throws by Brooklyn Howe with :48 left. Wingfield then scored the next five points, four by Coleman on free throws.

Down 46-44 with five seconds left and Wingfield inbounding the ball, PRC stole the inbounds pass and were able to get off a shot just before the buzzer sounded, but Wingfield blocked the shot.

Harlee Davis led PRC with 14 points and Brooklyn added 8 points and 8 rebounds for PRC.
