Poplarville looks to close out perfect regular season against Lawrence County


Poplarville is a game away from completing a perfect regular season before entering next week's playoffs as a top seed. The Hornets (9-0, 4-0) travel to Monticello to play the Lawrence County Cougars (3-7, 0-4).

The kickoff has been moved up to 5:00pm in response to the weather forecast for possible thunderstorms for later on Friday night.

The Hornets have been clicking on all cylinders offensively averaging 470 yards per game total offense and scoring an average of 38 points per game. The defense has recorded three shutouts.

Austin Bolton (5-8, 180, Sr.) has had a remarkable season scoring 23 TDs on 141 carries for 1,733 yards. Roosevelt Raine (6-1, 208, Sr.) has 6 TDs and 756 yards while the other member of the talented trio of backs, Tyson Holston (5-9, 170, Jr.), has rushed for 555 yards and 7 TDs.

Ross Barnett (5-10, 175, Jr.) has 126 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, and 1 interception. Peytan Graham (5-11, 230 Sr.) has 112 tackles with 8 tackles for loss.

The game will be broadcast on wrjwradio.com and the WRJW smart phone app. Those attending can listen on FM 91.1 in the stadium. Coverage begins at 4:30pm with the Paw Paw's Campers and Cars Pregame Show.
