Top-ranked Poplarville goes on the road to Sumrall

Poplarville Head Coach Jay Beech

After last week's 31-0 shutout at Forrest County AHS, top-ranked Poplarville will travel again this week when they take on the Sumrall Bobcats.

The Bobcats (5-3, 1-1) are a contrast from FCAHS with Sumrall being much more balanced offensively with the run and the pass. Bobcat quarterback Billy Garrity (6-0, 200, Jr.) has completed 83 of 150 passes for 1,430 yards and 10 TDs. His favorite receiver is Dannis Jackson (6-1,160,Jr ) with 48 catches for 914 yards and 8 TDs. The Bobcats have four running backs who have rushed for over 300 yards each.

The Hornets (7-0, 2-0) continue to light up the scoreboard averaging 36 points and 415 yards rushing per game. Austin Bolton (5-8,170,Sr.) has scored 17 TDs while accumulating 1,358 yards on 114 carries. Fullback Roosevelt Raine (6-1,208,Sr.) has rushed for 743 yards and 6 TDs while wingback Tyson Holston (5-9,170,Jr.) has posted 403 yards on 56 carries with 3 TDs.

Defensively, linebackers Ross Barnett (5-10,175,Jr.) with 96 tackles and Peyton Graham (5-11,230,Sr.) with 86 tackles lead a Hornet defense that has been solid all season, especially in the second half of their games. Last year, the Hornets beat Sumrall 56-6 at Poplarville.

The game can be heard on wrjwradio.com, the WRJW smart phone app, and in the stadium on FM 91.1 with Clay Sweet (play by play), Jeff Lossett (color analyst), and Jason Baker (sideline reporter) on the call of the game.
