Picayune beats North Pike; Pearl River Central rallies to defeat Hattiesburg

Luke Smith pitched 6 innings allowing just two earned runs while striking out 6 Jaguar batters and Picayune banged out 11 hits in a 8-2 win over North Pike at Kent Kirkland Field on Tuesday.

Kyler Lauga and Chad Dudenhefer (pictured below) each had two hits with Dudenhefer driving in 3 runs.

The Maroon Tide scored 3 runs in the 2nd on hits by Lauga and Dudenhefer and 3 more in the 4th on a hit by Dudenhefer, a bases loaded walk to Lauga, and a sacrifice fly from Chad “The Cobra” Stockstill. Stockstill and Jakail Myers each had doubles. Trey Wells pitched the last inning for Picayune.

Picayune (10-8, 4-3) will host Hattiesburg (10-8, 2-4) Friday in a game that could decide the district’s second seed for the upcoming playoffs.

Pearl River Central 7 Hattiesburg 6

On Tuesday, Pearl River Central’s Austin Dean had a rough start giving up 6 runs in the bottom of the first, but settled down and kept the Hattiesburg Tigers scoreless for the next four innings before giving way to Austin Diebold who blanked the Tigers the rest of the way at Smokie Harrington Park in Hattiesburg.

Mason Treat had 3 hits while Robert Shoemake and Dean added 2 hits for the Blue Devils (16-5, 6-1).

Pearl River Central will be at North Pike on Friday. A win clinches the district title and a bye in the first round of the playoffs.
