Picayune and Pearl River Central both lose region games


Both Picayune and Pearl River Central lost in region action on Tuesday night.

North Pike 5 Picayune 4 ( 8 innings)

Dylan Ramsay pitched six solid innings, but ran into trouble in the bottom of the seventh against North Pike, who rallied to tie the game and then won it 5-4 in extra innings at Summit.

Picayune had built a 4-2 lead behind three RBIs off the bat of Chad Stockstill in the first, third, and fifth innings and a North Pike error in the sixth inning. Ramsay gave up just two hits, both in the first, that pushed across two Jaguar runs.

In the bottom of the seventh, he hit the first batter, got an out on a bunt, gave up a single to center, and hit another batter to load the bases. He was replaced by Elisha Hickman.

The first batter Hickman faced hit a fly ball to left that resulted in an error that allowed one run to score and put the tying run at third.

The tying run scored on a wild pitch. North Pike won the game on a two-out walk off home run in the bottom of the eighth.

Picayune travels to Hattiesburg on Friday.

Hattiesburg 9 Pearl River Central 5

Hattiesburg took over first place in the region with the win at Carriere. The Tigers led 4-0 after two innings, but the Blue Devils rallied to close the gap to 6-4 in the fifth before Hattiesburg added three runs in the top of the sixth to take a 9-5 win.. Robert Shoemake had two hits for PRC including a solo home run in the second. Mason Treat also had two hits. Pearl River Central hosts North Pike on Friday.
