Supervisors approve Sheriff's requests; recognize Dr. James Sones

Sheriff David Allison (left) introduces Health Corr LLC's Mark Stockstill

The Pearl River County Board of Supervisors met on Monday in Poplarville. During the meeting, Sheriff David Allison requested approval on two items for his department.

The first was the purchase of bullet proof vests in the amount of $27,000.00. Sheriff Allison explained that over time vests effectiveness begins to deteriorate and that has made this purchase a necessity.

In another action, Sheriff Allison introduced Mark Stockstill, President/Owner of Health Corr LLC, as the representative of the company to take over the medical contract for the jail. The county is required to provide health care for inmates with a medical clinic. The contract calls for the provider to staff the clinic staff 7 days a week. Stockstill explained to WRJW News on how his company will provide the services required.

“We will use our employees to staff the clinic and utilize doctors and family nurse practioners through a contracting arrangement. We are committed to providing a better quality of care for the inmates,” said Stockstill. The contract term is for three years and would begin on January 1, 2018.

The board took time to recognize Dr. James “Sonny” Sones for his service for 11 years of service on the Pearl River County Utility Authority (PRCUA) board.

Board Attorney Joe Montgomery read a resolution that highlighted Dr. Sones service since the inception of the PRCUA.

Board Vice President Hudson Holliday said about Dr. Sones, “Dr. Sones didn’t want us to do this recognition. That shows the kind of man he is. There are people in this community that just want to tear down Pearl River County all the time. Then, there are men like Dr. Sones who put his time, his energy, his experience, and his expertise to build up this county. We just want you to know how much we appreciate you.”
