Picayune Police dispatched to apparent suicide

On Thursday, August 31st, at around 4:00pm, Picayune Police Assistant Chief Jeremy Magri told WRJW News that officers were dispatched to mile maker 8 on the southbound side of Interstate 59 in reference to a male subject laying in the grass on the side of the Interstate.

When officers arrived, they observed several people administering CPR on the subject. Ambulance personnel arrived on the scene shortly later and they took over the situation and began CPR activities according to Magri.

At around 4:45pm, the emergency personnel ceased medical help on the subject due to no signs of life and the coroner was notified. Officers observed what they believed to be a self-inflicted gun shot wound to the head. There was a 22 caliber revolver pistol found at the scene.

Through further investigation, officers believe the victim walked from the Hide-a-Way community through the woods to the Interstate and shot himself. Officers believe there was no foul play involved in the death of the individual. The investigation was turned over to the coroner according to Magri.

It is the policy of WRJW not to identify victims when an apparent suicide is involved.
